27 Thoughts About My Father

In a series of 27 vignettes, the artist offers up memories of his father who died in June 2017. Using a mix of family footage (including two catastrophic moves, the last to a nursing home), snapshots and found footage, a portrait emerges of a genial ghost father, haunted by a war that sent his own father to a concentration camp, and which finally compelled his own move to Canada.

I Dream Of Vietnam

Inspired by her Grandfather’s memories of Vietnam and the legends of ”open border”, a Chinese filmmaker embarks on a journey to the country for the first time. As she documents her journey, the filmmaker comes upon her own liminality instead.

The idea for the name “I Dream of Vietnam” is from the name of a restaurant “IDOF(I Dream of Falafel)” that the filmmaker lived nearby.

Slow Volumes

A motion study of passing time. Shot using a hand-built camera, 35mm film is drawn past a thin vertical aperture, organizing the image temporally. Familiar objects dissolve into abstract lines unless in motion past the lens, their shape determined not by their physical features but in the speed of their movement.

“The film was shot using a hand-built 35mm camera. I designed and built the camera with artist, Hannah Givler, from 35mm projector parts that we sourced from Julian Antos and the Chicago Film Society.” – Mike Gibisser
