Kissing Under Some Bats Music Video
MelkBelly is a Chicago based noise rock band consisting of four members, three related, and one who drums. Miranda Winters on vocals and lead guitar, her partner Bart Winters also on guitar, Bart’s brother Liam on bass and non-relative friend James Wetzel on the drums. All together their sound can be categorized as noise rock with a pop like energy. Their new album PITH gives the listener an equally grimey and catchy collection of songs. Melkbelly creates a certain feeling of organized chaos, something is beautifully arranged out of purposely ugly components. Listening to PITH shows you why and how a layer of distortion can be used to your advantage. Sadly their summer tour got cancelled because of covid, but hopefully you will be able to catch their energetic live shows in the near future.
Their song Kissing Under Some Bats is a stand out from PITH as Miranda’s raspy voice is delivered with a train conductor like kaydance. Lyrically this song is very human touching on subjects like relationships and love. The rolling drums and the bassy lead guitar keeps everything moving forward and makes you feel like you are late for work. I went into making a music video for Kissing Under Some Bats with the maximalist attitude of Melkbelly. I wanted to synthesis something beautiful out of multiple components that would not be as valuable on their own. I leaned into messiness in an attempt to emulate what Melkbelly does so well.
