Industrial hip hop
The playlist I’ve curated this week involves a lot of jazz rap over an experimental or unique beat, and every artist I’ve included has their own flow over these abstract beats and melodies.
Most of the songs I chose are from black artists and while choosing I wanted to have a balance of songs about their internal mental struggles as well as music about their victories.
Many of the songs have a spoken word element to them which creates personally to me a direct storytelling way of making music. They sample many different things in each song corresponding to the way that artist was trying to make you feel in that moment.
“Risk” by bas is my personal favorite on this list because of the mood the song creates right when it’s hit on play. The collage is a visual representation of how I feel all things songs collectively feel for me. Very industrial yet local and sort of abandoned.
