2020 CUFF Coronavirus update.
First off, I hope all of you are alright and dealing with the current insanity as best you can. And before I say anything else, I want each and every one of you who are reading this to know that we’re all in this together, and we’re all here to support our communities as best we can.
After Trump was elected, my good friends Tim and Katie Tuten at the Chicago music venue The Hideout put up a sign that read: “There Is Still Kindness and Goodness.” And while the threads of our society are unraveling and each and everyone one of us is being forced to reflect, I want to remind everyone out there that we all can be the change we want to see in this new world of ours.
Now for the update: I’m sure most of you will not be at all surprised to hear this, but the 27th Chicago Underground Film Festival has now been postponed. We had hoped things would return to normal before our June dates but we no longer feel confident that that will be the case. Furthermore, this situation is having the expected negative impact on our sponsors ability to commit to anything right now.
At the moment we believe the new dates for CUFF 2020 will be September 9th – 13th. We’ve been in contact with The Logan Theatre and have a tentative hold on those dates. Obviously a lot of events are rescheduling so the Logan needs to be sure they can accommodate everyone but they think these dates will work. Taila and I will be talking with the Logan on Thursday to confirm.
Because of this we will also be postponing our notification date. If you submit a film you should now expect to hear from us by May 31.
Stay safe, stay healthy, stay informed, and we love you all.
