Documentary Video 88:00 2004 Chicago Premiere
Beginning in 1964 with 15 year-old Fred Cole’s early career on the Las Vegas strip, “Unknown Passage” traces his musical journey from garage rock to psych rock to country to folk to punk & back again. The addition of wife Toody on bass & drummer Andrew Loomis creates Dead Moon, underground legends that thrive in the often-dysfunctional world of rock & roll.
“Keeping one gig ahead of a day job”, Dead Moon’s tour stampedes though the US and Europe playing night after night of raw and hauntingly authentic music. Back in Portland, their independent spirits persevere as they build a “frontier style mini-mall” and cut & master their records at home. Here stands the triumph of a family of “old-west homesteaders” against corporate control and gracelessly growing old. -Jeff London (& Kate Fix)
