Cuff in Timeout Chicago
Timeout Chicago has a nice story about this years festival.
Halloween is the obvious holiday for an underground film festival, so it is fitting that the 15th anniversary edition of the Chicago Underground Film Festival has moved to late October. There aren’t any monster films in the lineup, but filling this void are wizards (Josh Koury’s Harry Potter fan doc We Are Wizards), some rather dark bands (the music doc Such Hawks, Such Hounds: Scenes from the American Hard Rock Underground) and plenty of strange atmospherics in two retrospective programs of films by the late Curtis Harrington. The most horrific thing you will likely find in the festival is filmmaker James Fotopoulos’s disturbing and questionable use of actual beheading footage in his feature-length experimental narrative Sleep Weep (The Zookeeper).
