AV-aerie (formerly Open End Gallery) for our 2007 festival Kick-off party with musical guests Pillars and Tongues and the David Danielle/Doug McCombs Duo.

Pillars and Tongues
http://www.myspace.com/pillarsandtongues

Pillars and Tongues evolved from Static Films, the musical project created by vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and composer Mark Trecka. Unlike the fluid musicians involved in that project, Pillars and Tongues has coalesced into a stable line-up of Trecka, Douglas Tesnow, Beth Remis and Evan Hydzik. Their music is powerful, theatrical and experimental drawing comparisons to The Dirty Three, Dead Can Dance and Rachel’s among others.

David Danielle/Doug McCombs Duo

David Daniell is the head of both of composer Rhys Chatham’s current ensembles; he’s the lead guitarist in Jonathan Kane’s rollicking band, February; McCombs; he has collaborated with a Who’s Who of today’s finest, including Tim Barnes, Thurston Moore and Loren Connors and his guitar work with his own band, San Agustin, is the stuff of which fleeting blues-drone dreams are made. Tonight he performs with Tortoise’s Doug McCombs.

Doug McCombs is a bassist and guitar player based in Chicago, IL. Best known for his work with two seminal bands Eleventh Dream Day and Tortoise. McCombs has also performed as a member of Pullman, Toe and The For Carnation in addition to his own solo project Brokeback.
