GETTING REAL: THE TRUTH ABOUT DOCUMENTARY FILMMAKING

What kind of commitment does it take to make a documentary? What are the rewards and how is it possible to make a living as a doc filmmaker? How have digital filmmaking tools changed the way documentaries are made? This panel will explore the harsh realities of reality-based moviemaking direct from the top documentarians in independent film.

HOW TO SHOOT NUDE SCENES

The primary responsibility of a film director is to forge a relationship with actors based on trust. This is necessary in order to create a space in which actors feel comfortable baring their souls on screen. We’ll explore how directors work with actors and get their insight on the methods used to persuade performers to become emotionally “naked” on camera. Plus a live demonstration will take place to illustrate actual nude filmmaking techniques.

SUNDAY, AUGUST 25TH 3:00 PM

EXTREME FILMMAKING: USING NO-BUDGET TO YOUR ADVANTAGE

Learn how to use the limitations of low budget and no budget filmmaking to achieve a certain aesthetic. Get direct answers from our panel on exactly how to take advantage of your “lack of money” in order to create a stellar-looking movie. Through production war stories, we’ll discover the tried and true methods used by today’s top indie filmmakers.

MONDAY, AUGUST 26TH 5:30 PM

AVID EXPRESS DV DEMONSTRATION 6:30 PM

Check out what Avid products have to offer the lower-budget filmmaker by taking a tour of Avid Express DV, v 3.5. In this demo, Dave Fish from Avid highlights the newest features of Avid¹s newly released Express DV v. 3.5, which includes over 100 customizable real-time effects such as color correction and multiple simultaneous real-time streams. See how you can preview a title, apply a dissolve, perform color correction, and animate a picture-in-picture effect simultaneously – all without rendering. And, the current release of Express DV carries versions for either Macs or PCs in the same box. As a sponsor of the fest, Avid has generously donated a copy of this product as part of the “Made in Chicago” award package.

The Chicago Underground Film Festival thanks Avid for helping us help Chicago filmmakers. Come out and let them know that you do too!
